Friday's Hunt with the letter Q

I'm joining Teresa again for Friday's Hunt at Eden Hills. The letter Q was timely for Queen Elizabeth II celebrated her 90th birthday this week.
As a commonwealth country, Canada flew the British flag until we celebrated our own with the red maple leaf in February of 1965.
As a young student we sang 'God Save the Queen' every morning at school facing the flag and a highlight for me was donating our family framed photo of the Queen to my classroom in the late 50's. After that, we faced her photo when we sang.

My husband's grandmother who came from England said that Queen Elizabeth kept her hairstyle the same so she would be easily recognized and give consistency to her reign.
Our poor grandson dog wasn't shown at his best last week, this is Henry after his recent haircut for my favourite this week.
Here's Topaz at rest.
I'm also linking with Mosaic Monday.

  2. Nice responses to the prompts. We had a dog that would pout after grooming--embarrassed or something.

  3. Like you, I fatured the Queen in this post. I think she is wonderful for her age and looks beautiful on her birthday. Love both shots of the dogs. Have a lovely weekend.

  4. What an interesting post, Judith! We too have been admiring the lovely photos of the Queen celebrating her birthday and meeting the Obamas. Yes, perhaps it's better that a queen doesn't change her hairstyle, at least not very drastically.
    Lovely doggies!
Have a great weekend! See you on Monday. Thank you for hosting Mosaic Monday so splendidly! xx

  6. Doesn't the queen look great for her age? My late mother in law never changed her hairstyle and it kept her timeless. Cute doggie photos, Judith! Happy weekend to you!

  11. Oh I was hoping that comment had taken and not flown. I get worn out making comments and then losing them. I really should cut and paste. The Queen has really been a wonderful example to her people and to us all. I truly admire her as well. And I remember when the Maple Leaf flag was first flown and my Canadian grandmama saw it. Oh my. She was not a fan. Ha! She wanted Canada to continue flying the Union Jack. And I've probably told this story too many times. Not only am I running out of fodder for the blog, I'm running out of words for comments! Ackkk...

  12. Since I've been a young girl, I was always secretly glad that Canada was a part of the Commonwealth. To me that felt special. I'm a Royalist at heart and love all things British.

Thanks for a lovely post, Judith! Wishing you a pleasant weekend!

  13. I've always loved the Queen's trademark hats. In addition to Niagara Falls, the CN Tower was also illuminated purple as a tribute to the Queen's milestone birthday.

  15. I've been thinking that the queen is quite photogenic. As I looked at photos in honor of her 90th I did think about her hairdo being so consistent for so many years. Interesting reason! I know this MM is the last for a few weeks, thanks of hosting for such a long time!

  17. We both used queen for our letter Q. Of course, Minnie's reign has not been near as long as Elizabeth's. :-) Love the pups. Topaz looks quite cozy. Thanks so much for joining in Friday's Hunt!

  21. Sweet dogs and I love your grand dog's haircut but how sweet to be so comfortable on that nice chair. Reminds me of my own sweet dog when I saw her head on the pillow lying next to me waiting for me to wake when hubs was traveling on business. She knew where her comfort lay too :) I have had fun looking at the photos to do with Queen Elizabeth 's birthday. Lovely post Judith and thank you so much for hosting Mosaic Monday.

  31. Wonderful school memories...and I love the tidbit of her hair. My husband actually met the Queen. He was in a crew race for her 25th anniversary there in Canada....his crew won the Queen's Cup and she presented the cup to him as he was the coxswain. He also talked at length with Prince Phillip. Most people don't believe he actually met them both until he pulls out the photo.

  32. Well I'm not surprised the Queen never changes her haircut - too much risk for Queen and Commonwealth incase she has a reaction to the new do, like expression on your Grandson dog! My Crazy Poodle is just the same :)
