Red Birds and Hearts

Thank you to everyone that offered get well wishes while I was ill with a cold, it still lingers a bit but is quite manageable now. It was nice to know that others think of toast and tea as comfort food too.
Friday's Hunt this week has three prompts again and the first is the letter 'C'.
We have cardinals year round in our yard and from watching the male and female, I've determined they're pretty intelligent birds.
My favourite for this week: we purchased a new tabletop tree for Christmas and I decided to keep it out and decorate it for Valentine's Day. It came with lights attached so I can add a bit of twinkle to the living room.
Inside: I set up a small tea table in front of the decorated tree.
Still life with a cornbread muffin made in a small heart pan but I realize there should have been tea in the cup. There was tea afterwards however when I ate the muffin. I have to work fast or my dog rushes in and grabs the food from my shots! Many times I have turned away to get something else and when I look back, a muffin, scone or cookie is gone...nothing but crumbs left.
I'm linking with Friday's Hunt and Mosaic Monday.

  2. Hi Judith. I'm glad you are feeling somewhat better now. I also find tea and toast to be a nice meal when not feeling well or even as a quick meal on a busy day. Your Valentine tree is really pretty and a nice idea. I may have to add some Valentine hearts to my winter tree. :) I smiled when I read about your dog sneaking your cookies etc. Have a nice day! It's bitterly cold here after the snowstorm so I'm staying put.

  4. Sneaky, little rascal! So glad to hear you are feeling better. Even though I shook the sick feeling a week ago, I still have some annoying, lingering symptoms. It can take awhile to bring everything back into balance.

  6. Good you are feeling better,Judith, winter is a cold month. Temperatures low in the morning and warming up in the afternoon doesn't help and is bad for my arthritis. I love the Cardinals, they are a favorite of mine.
    Have a blessed day.

  9. I am envious of your wonderful cardinal photos. My brother who lives next door has cardinals visit daily, but I cannot seem to attract them to my backyard. Perhaps we are too "open"...
Love your little Valentine tree and had a good chuckle picturing your dog sneaking off with a sweet treat. :)

  18. The cardinal are beautiful, Judith. I think one of the loveliest sights in winter is a bright red cardinal with snow all around. I thought of you this week, while listening to a couple of Master Gardeners speak about shrubs at the garden club.

  30. I have a passion for cardinals, probably because we don't have them here. So I go to my brother's ranch in Texas where they are plentiful. He has a deer feeder down in his woods where he feeds the deer. He turns it it and it throws out corn. Then the wildlife comes. We sit quietly and watch the birds and sometimes deer come to feed. I take pictures. But Texas is a long way away. So I love your bird photos. I left comment on you page of recipes thinking it was this week's post. Oh well. great recipes and great birds. And a pretty Valentine tree with a perfect red tea pot.

Cardinals are so brilliant. We don't get them around here but I remember when we lived in Virginia they were always a bright spot at the feeders, especially when it was snowing.

  52. You are so blessed to have Cardinals. They do not come to this part of the world... I am not sure if I have ever told you, but my precious Grandma Betty {from Ontartio} loved birds especially Cardinals so whenever I see one in person or in a photo I think of her :)

Your tree is quite sweet and so perfect for Valentine's Day. Take care, lovely lady, and have a blessed week. Hugs!

  54. I was just watching a male cardinal and his mate feeding from the large feeder in front of the kitchen window a little while ago while making a cuppa.....and I agree they are intelligent - he was eating, then looked all around, eating, then looked all around. I am so used to my gluttonesque finches eating and not paying attention to anything else while doing so - at least mine. I think they have a serious false sense of security while dining at chez Finch Rest, eh?

Lovely Valentine's inspiration - and thank you for hosting MM - glad to finally be posting something again and joining in the fun this time around! HUGS!!
