Mosaic Monday #36 Tranquility and Photo Despair

A few weeks ago I mentioned changes with a blog makeover in progress. Welcome to my new look!
Another change which I was not expecting was an update to my MacBook operating system that has thrown me into a tailspin. All my neatly organized folders of photos were dumped and are now found by date only. As a garden writer, it has been important to have these folders for specific flowers, gardens and techniques to quickly and easily access for articles.
Anyone else in a quandary over this?  I've started the reorganizing by deleting unwanted photos and creating albums again. This is going to take me hours! (sigh)
At least I could easily find the photos from when hubby and I recently went for a walk around the arboretum.
The totem pole is well weathered as are the long forgotten swallow houses. There are a few benches about to sit and rest on or just enjoy the tranquility of this wonderful place in the country.
On the left some flooding in the upper meadow caused by the beavers and the pond starting to thaw out on the right. The arrow is showing the beaver lodge.
Long ago someone erected a bench by the pond's edge and I've captured it in late autumn and during winter. I wonder if this pond was ever used for swimming or skating long ago? I can imagine a mother sitting on the bench watching her children or perhaps it was built merely for a place of solitude.

  3. Hello, Judith!
The arboretum looks like a fascinating and peaceful area for a walk. I like especially the pond, and enjoy imagining children skating there.
I'm very sorry to hear about the problem with your folders of photos. I have taken digital photos only for about two years, and there's already an awful lot of them.
Thank you for hosting MM and have a great week!

  4. So sorry about the photo troubles. It sounds awful and tedious! Love the photos you shared today though, especially that totem pole :)

  5. Love the new look on your blog - so fresh looking. How frustrating to have your photos re-organized for you by a system that doesn't understand your needs.
A lovely visit to the arboretum. Beavers are amazing creatures, although they can wreak havoc with the landscape.
Enjoy the start of gardening season!

  6. Yes, computers and the internet are not always easy. When updating new problems always crop up. Hope you sort your photographs in the end.
    Have a good week ahead.

  7. Oh what a pain t have your photo's turned upside down like that, on the upside at least you can delete those you always meant to!
The bench by the water's edge looks like a wonderful place to sit and contemplate Mother Nature at any time of the year.
Enjoy your gardening this week, we're quite busy over here at the moment, too.

  8. Thank you for hosting, Judith. How frustrating about your photos. These are pretty photos from your recent walk. Interesting to see the beaver lodge. The bench in the different seasons is very sweet, also. I hope you have a nice week.

  10. Your new blog dress is just beautiful.
Be sure to back up your photo files to an external hard drive and you'll never lose them again....
    Thanks for the Monday party...

  11. Hi Judith
Like the 3 story high rise calling for blue martins maybe.
Organizing files, ugh. But it will probably be a good thing in the end.

  12. The new look is lovely, light and spring like but still in your favourite colours. Do you keep your photos in iPhoto as I know they go by date, which I hate? I don't use that for mine but use one that came with my Canon camera, but there is an option to view in folders or by date. I also use Picasa for Mac which shows all my photos in folders.

  16. I suffer from chronic photo despair; can never get a handle on proper filing and sorting. But that doesn't stop me from adding more! Love your tranquil walk and your new page design. Thank you for hosting.

  17. Wonderful photos - I do like an area that has benches for enjoying nature.

And what a pain that the update messed up your photos. I would be absolutely ruined if that happened. I have been doing a little organizing of my photos - it does take a long time - even when you don't have to start from the beginning.

  18. Your makeover is just lovely, Judith! Very classic and classy. And I'm so sorry to hear of your photo challenges, especially since you have taken such care to keep things organized. Why can't computers and their offspring behave better? ;)

  19. I LOVE your new blog looks, Judith, it's so pretty!! My favorite thing is the pretty lavender wallpaper background. I'm so sorry about your pictures; the same thing happened to a good blogging friend of mine a few years ago. She was sooo frustrated! I would be in a real tizzy should this happen to me.

Your photos from the arboretum are lovely; it looks like such a peaceful place. Love the mosaic of the bench by the pond. Thank you for hosting Mosaic Monday and have a wonderful day!

  21. Hi Judith...what a lovely place! I can only imagine how peaceful to sit on a bench and just take it all in...it sure would be cool to see that little beaver do his thing! I'm really sorry about the problem with your photos. Hopefully you will be able to accomplish this without too much trouble. I really need to take a whole day (or more) and reorganize and delete some of mine too. Thank you for hosting Mosaic Monday!!

  24. Hi Judith, thank you for Mosaic Monday 36. Always a pleasure to join in. Now I will have to look into what happens when the Mac System is upgraded to iPhoto. What a huge job you will have resorting all your thousands of photos. I was about to upgrade but now I will research first.

  25. I am so sorry that your photos were all unorganized! I had the same thing happen a few months ago on my pc after a glitch crashed the photo program...everything reverted to dates and even pulled out of my recycle bin...haven't completely redone it all...my sincere condolences!!

  27. Hi Judith,
I'm so sorry about your photos! It will take awhile, but you'll get it accomplished, I'm sure.
Your mosaic is lovely. My late beloved and I used to enjoy strolling the Dallas Arboretum during the different seasons of the year.

  28. Judith, I fully understand your problems but from a Microsoft perspective. When I updated my lap top a few years ago it was loaded with Windows 8 software. It was very different from Windows 7 and I had to relearn its new system. Happily, I upload my photos to Picasa and it basically remained the same, but lately updates are now being placed in a "Google plus" folder instead of my Nikon folder. I panicked until I realized that, as I thought I was losing photos. Take your time and you will re-learn your computer's new system. It's a challenge, but good mental exercise!

The arbotetum you visited looks very intersting! I htought the totem pole was an angel at first. The bench looks like a nice place to sit and enjoy the lake.

Your new blog look is very sleak and modern looking--very pretty! I have some trouble seeing light colors these days, as I have eye troubles so I have to enlarge my browser to se eit better. It is thre same for many blogs I visit.

  29. I love the new look of your blog Judith! I'm sorry I can't help you with your computer troubles, but I'm like Pat (above) and changed to a laptop with Windows8. It was confusing at first, but I don't mind it now. I just had to slog through it until I figured things out. You can always google your queries, as I've found my questions have always been asked by someone ahead of me.
Your photos from your walk are just beautiful ... love that little pond, and I could sit on that bench for a while just enjoying the sound of birds and the wind in the trees :)

  34. I love the new look of your blog, Judith. Karen did a fantastic job! I enjoyed seeing photos from the arboretum; it brought back sweet memories of visiting there with you and Glenn last summer. Sorry to hear about our photo albums. If you have as many photos online as I do (8k plus), it's not easy to find things without lot of looking. Have a great week!

  36. Hi Judith,

Your new look is lovely! I especially like the pretty, lavender coloured background pattern.

Sorry to hear about your photos. It must be very frustrating to track them down by date, but at least you still have them! Hope you get it sorted out soon.

I am enchanted with the bench in your photos, and like both your suggestions as to how it may have been used, both in the past and the present.

Thanks for hosting and have a wonderful week! I know you got plenty of sunshine yesterday!

  37. I'm so sorry to hear about your photo Judith. I have a MacBook Pro but my pictures are in Picasa and not iPhoto. Are yours in iPhoto? That would be a terrible mess to figure out! Your blog's new look is really lovely and fresh and I love the header. The walk around the pond looks lovely. The farm pond near us is still frozen but I noticed a dark area today where it's thinning. Have a nice week. Pam

  40. Don't talk to me about computer updates Judith - I resist pushing the 'update' button now.
The last time I did that, I couldn't access my printer and I had to take everything to my computer 'fixer upperer' to sort out that tangled web - oh dear!

The arboretum looks like a beautiful spot for a stroll to enjoy the scenery.
Interesting to see the totem pole.

Good luck with sorting your photo library, I can imagine your frustration.
