Tea on Thursday - Changes

With the sun shining practically every day now and spring arriving tomorrow, I'm motivated to start making some changes. My talented and obliging web designer, Karen Valentine is working with me to create a complete makeover on the design of Lavender Cottage. I love the original design but when Karen gave a gentle nudge last year that an updated look was in order, I dragged my heels until now because I have the type of personality that doesn't like change.
I realize updating in various aspects of one's life is essential whether it be home decor, clothing or the simple undertaking of social media. Even my young hairdresser recently insisted on a different and more modern hairstyle so in recalling the term I've heard from blogging sister BJ who blogs at Sweet Nothings I said "I want to look sassy'. This must be a southern term but I sure like it! (adj. full of spirit)
Every so often I'll use this large teacup that actually holds the same amount of tea as a mug and it's a welcome change as I don't have to run to the teapot as often.
Here's a big change - no scone in sight for afternoon tea because I'm trying to lose weight.  There has to be something to nosh with afternoon tea though, a habit for years from when I was working.  A couple of celebration biscuits with dark chocolate are a little higher in calories than I'd like but I allow for them with my planning. Speaking of which, I use My Fitness Pal, a free app recommended by one of our daughters.
Switching to dark chocolate for the health benefits was a small challenge as we grew up with milk chocolate but I find a little goes a long way with the dark for chocolate cravings.
The winter snowflake dishes and snowmen were packed away this week with the Lennox Butterfly Meadows china returning to the cupboards. Spring decor of bunnies and birds returned to the hall table and throughout the rest of the house. That's a Scentsy burner on the right and if I had remembered to turn it on you would have seen the birds on it.
Well, that's enough changes for for me right now but I foresee more in the future as the gardens awake and come to life.
Any changes in your life? Any desire for a new hairstyle to look 'sassy' too? :-)

  1. Oh, I'm really looking forward to seeing how the "updated" Lavender Cottage will look!
The current layout is very beautiful, but it's always interesting to see what changes a professional designer will suggest.
    Your lavender teacup is lovely!
    Happy Thursday!

  3. Hi Judith, I recently changed my hairstyle (about two years ago) at the urging of my hairdresser. At first I wasn't sure about it, but now I really like it. Like you, I often have to be pushed to make changes; I get too comfortable with things the way they are. :) Another change I need to make is to lose some weight. I seriously need to, and it's SO hard for me to change my eating habits. I'll be taking my snowmen down this week, too -- so ready for them to go. :-D I'll be bringing out birds and bunnies, as well.

I just LOVE your pretty teacup, Judith. It suits you perfectly. I enjoyed your post and hope you have a great day!

    Big hugs,

    Denise at Forest Manor

  4. I love the lavender teacup. So pretty. I am thinking about change and maybe it is because I have an appointment with a new Doctor next week. For once I am looking forward to change, at least I hope so.

  5. I love the way your blog is - but looking forward to seeing how you change things. Today I want to start putting out spring things - and put away St. Patrick's day - I don't do much for SP - but for spring - watch out. I adore spring and have so many cute things to display and use.

  9. Always good to change things up a bit but I am the same as you I don't take change to some things very well but then I think to myself a fresh look would be nice lol ! Oh I can`t have tea with out something sweet to go with it lol a cookie , or a little scone or even a piece of chocolate just what I was raised with as well and for me that will never change lol ! I am sure the change to your blog will be a good one as this blogs face is very pretty ! Thanks for sharing , Happy spring !

  10. Hi Judith, Looking forward to seeing your new blog design. It's pretty now, but change is fun too. Your cookies look good and your lavender themed teacup is perfect for you! Have a great weekend!

  11. Change can be energizing! I like the idea of looking "sassy" in the very best sense of the word. Your new blog design will be wonderful, I'm sure. It took me awhile to get used to dark instead of milk chocolate but I could never go back now.

  12. Some of my family are using that app and loving it! I want to see your sassy new do! We are all decorated too and I am thrilled with that! Having the family dinner this sunday as several will be gone on Easter!

  13. Well...it will be fun to see the "new you". I think having daughters makes a difference...but mine is now several states away and we don't get to see her very often, so th "gentle hints" of "keeping up" are a bit muted at the moment! Lol!. I have never like milk chocolate...only dark. So welcome aboard to chocolate heaven!!!

  14. What a cute post, Judith. I'm anxious to see your "changes". I love the "Spring" table, and butterflies on the wall. Now, if outside would catch up to our inside decor.
Have a great weekend, dear friend.

  17. I can't wait to see it Judith!

Yes, sometimes we need to remember to have fun and sassy is fun! Will we get to see this sassy haircut?

    Happy Spring!

  18. Sassy, heh? It is hard to embrace change...it is for me anyway.I love your blog and I know you do just fine with your new look! I love purple and your use of it. Don't get rid of all your purples.

  19. Hello, dear Judith! Change can be very good and I look forward to seeing your new look here. I had to give up scones some time ago and now spend my tea time on the treadmill. :) I hope you are having a smooth transition into spring. G

  20. Oh, Judith! You may want your blog to look sassy, but I can't imagine you ever being southern sassy. I am anxious to see your new look. I like to change up my blog page every few years.

  21. Happy Spring, Judith!

I look forward to seeing your blog's updated look! I recently got my shoulder-length hair cut and my shorter hair makes me look 10 years younger. Hee!

Best of luck with the weight loss! In a few weeks at work, we'll be starting a walking challenge that's designed to "get us moving". Now that the warmer weather is finally here, it should be more motivating to get off the couch and go for an outside stroll.

  22. I like your current blog design, but I'm sure the new one will be just as lovely. My one and only design is three years old now, so I suppose I should start thinking about change too. Hope you'll share a photo of your new hair style! Happy spring!

  23. Ah yes, change. It's good for you. I got a "sassier" hairdo too and new glasses, but I really didn't know the definition of sassy. I am relieved to read it! I like it! And of course it's my young friends who are more enthralled with my new look. I look forward to your new blog look. It's interesting how we change around our blogs just like we might update a room in our home. As far as dark chocolate, I do love it, just a small bit each day and it does satisfy the chocolate craving more than a lighter chocolate, IMHO. Hope you are enjoying a spring like weekend. Or maybe even a hint ...

  24. Sassy is good! I'm taking some bookcases out and having a hutch like cabinet built in. I need someplace to put all my teacups! That means cleaning out the cookbooks. So far I have 3 boxes of keepers and about the same amount headed to half-price books. Guess I am making some changes!

  25. Judith, I love your blog template and design very much but sometimes change can be a good thing. I am very overdo a blog overhaul myself, but I usually do it myself and I've fallen behind on how to do many new things these past few years with all that has been going on in my life. Someday I hope to devote the time to modernizing it a bit. I look forward to your new look!

  26. I don't really like change either, but I think I might like a new hairstyle too, but just don't know what! Be sure and post a photo when you get your new "do"!!

  27. Change is always fun, but I am so wishy-washy about it. It takes me forever to get things just like I want them! My dh is so patient with me when I start re-arranging the furniture, but he gets a little exasperated when I move his favorite couch to a new spot. Good luck with your makeover- I'm sure it will be fabulous!

  28. Yes, change can be daunting, but it can also be an adventure! I too use MyFitnessPal here in Australia and find it very useful for being accountable about what I consume - of course the end results will only reflect my accurate input! Embrace the opportunities to vary life Judith and thanks for providing the nudge that perhaps it's time I too changed my blog header!

  29. Love your lavender tea cup! So pretty. i am drooling for one of those cookies right now. i am excited for you and your blog change. I look forward to seeing what you guys come up with! Whatever it is, I am sure it will be pretty, as this one is.

  30. I definitely need to make some changes, Judith! I'm carrying some extra pounds these days and the furniture is all tired and sad looking. Maybe if I knew what I wanted I wouldn't be so reluctant to go shop! I'm interested to see how your new blog design differs from the current one.

  31. Well... a new haircut for myself?? sure, that could be a positively thing to do for a new attitude... I love the decor, the butterflies displayed in the room and I want to thank you for adding the explanation for sassy (adj. full of spirit) and I, also, thank you for inspiration... I think it's time to really proceed with some changes, too...
A very happy week of Springtime for you!!

  32. Excited to see your changes. And hope you give us a picture of sassy new you too)))

  33. I will look forward to seeing your changes in blog, hairstyle and decor! My own blog is way overdue for a sprucing-up, but like you, I'm fairly averse to change and don't often seek it out. I did get a new haircut last week, but it is so very blah, I'm thinking of going back this week for a do-over ... something short and sassy! ;)

  34. Alas, I am still waiting for Spring weather here. It is hard to get in the mood for decor changes when one sees mountains of snow outside their window. However, change is a good thing! It's as good as a rest, they say.

I too look forward to seeing your new sassy hair style. I have been wearing mine in a bob for years only because it is easier for me to manage. My hubby likes it best this way. However at my last appointment, I had my stylist shorten the back a wee bit and angle it toward the front. This I have also had before but it is a change.

Love the teacup! I would also like to do something with my blog but I can't do anything without the help of my son and he only comes home once a year.

    Have a lovely day, Judith.

    Blessings,
    Sandi
