Owl Eyes

I discovered a cute little owl two lots over from our rental house sitting on a mound of soil in this vacant lot.

It wasn't until I put the photos on my computer that I saw the second pair of eyes peering through the ground cover.
I knew right away who to ask what type of owl this was and my blogging sister Eileen at Viewing Nature with Eileen told me it is a burrowing owl.
A couple of days later we had storm at night with lots of rain and the two were outside waiting for the burrow to dry no doubt.
I'm thinking this is the male who is always on the lookout.
And the smaller female.
There are other burrows in the neighbourhood and I imagine they'll all have a sign like this eventually.
I'll be linking with Saturday's Critters , thank you for hosting Eileen!

  8. Love the shots of the owls. Perhaps the lower one is sitting on the nest - or near it to protect it. Super shots.

  12. What adorable owls. I imagine they're nesting, so you'll have to resist temptation to visit that spot again. Aren't burrowing owls endangered? Wonderful surprise for you :) Wendy

  22. How cool that you got to see these cute owls! Have you heard about the attacking owl going after joggers and stealing hats? I am glad these little ones were nice to be around! We have an owl at the new house and he is quite elusive but we hear hoot at night and it is precious.
