May Photo Challenge - Colour

I've been working in the garden the last couple of days and although there isn't a lot of colour yet, I wanted to share my favourite flower right now.
The marsh marigolds in the pond glow on an overcast day so I put my macro lens on the Canon 40D and other than tweaking the contrast a bit and cropping out the waterfall rocks, you can see how these flowers are easily seen from a distance.
My favourite watering can at the ready with a rose that provides a nice gentle spray of water.
My neon art work. :-) This photo is a few years old and I honestly don't have the ability to make the background black as it is and don't know what I did. It was taken with my Canon 40D in the evening with an ISO of 400 and f 5.6. Perhaps Donna can explain how this turned out the way it did?
I'm linking with Donna from Cottage Days and Journeys for the photo challenge here.

Wonderful focus with the wild marigolds and the caterpillar pic is stunning - I hope Donna can give us feedback as to how you did it!!!!

I've made up a photography file where I put all the tips I pick up - it's a great reference!

  7. Great choices for colour. I really love the third 'mystery' photo of the caterpillar. I think I did a photo like that once with the dark background and haven't a clue how I did it. :) Your's is very artistic. Have a great weekend Judith.

  9. Great photos! The watering can is a wonderful one: so simple, yet full of life with all that blue. And the last one, what a looker! It could almost be computer art, but you've done it with your camera. Glorious!

  10. Those marsh marigolds are stunningly yellow, and so beautifully photographed. I'm also interested to hear Donna's take on that last photo with the black background. Very interesting.

  12. Like you I am not getting a lot either. We went from snow to the mid 80's and have already seen some burn up. This has just been an awful Spring here. Hoping yours starts getting better soon.

  13. Hi Judith,
Sometimes I get a photo that just jumps out and surprises me also. This is a lovely shot. My water lilies haven't made it out of the water yet, nothing much to report on as our snow just left our backyard only a week and few days ago, our Spring is so far behind. Love the water can.

  19. Love all your shots Judith! The Marsh Marigolds and the blue watering can are so vivid- beautiful! And that last shot of the caterpillar is very dramatic with the black background. I have taken a few shots and ended up with black backgrounds too and wondered "How the heck did I do that?"

  25. These are terrific! Love the first macro shot. Yellow is one of those colors that always "pop" in the landscape. Your watering can is cute! I have a blue one too, but it has gotten so bleached by the sun over the years that it is now pretty much a grey color, LOL. And wowsers on the last photo! There must have been a high dynamic range in the scene (lots of light on the subject and virtually none in the background), and the exposure was set for the subject. I use exposure compensation in those situations, usually. I love the graphic effect! Great job on the challenge, as always.

  26. Judith I saw your pics earlier but did not have a chance to comment. Such a lovely daffodil and I like your bright blue watering can--great color shot. Ours is a dull, sun bleached green. :-) And the last shot is a stunner!
