High Tea Birthday at Moffat's

Welcome friends for tea this week.  While in Florida for the month, our youngest daughter and family came to stay with us for a week.  My birthday is not until Sunday but I was asked what I'd like since they would be gone by then.  I suggested an outing for tea, and a reservation was made for Valentine's Day at Moffat's in Dunedin for high tea.
This is an older photo from the Teamap site and the teahouse does look a little different today, but has not lost any of the charm as portrayed.
And here we are on the balcony just before we left.  My daughter Kelly and granddaughter Mia (who loves pandas) with me.

The room just outside of the tearoom had appealing displays, including this Valentine's Day table.
The tearoom had lace curtains on the windows, teacups hanging from the ceiling, plates, teapots and flowers around the room.
Since it was Valentine's Day, each guest had a chocolate on their napkin and received a glass of pink champagne.  Mia had pink lemonade in her glass.  The choice of tea was Earl Grey, a raspberry or a citrus flavoured herbal.  I had the Earl Grey while Kelly and Mia had the raspberry.
Each place setting had a china trio and I sat where the violets were as they are the flower for February.
A teacup of crab bisque came out first...
followed by individual quiches.  Ham and cheese for Mia and I, and a cheese and spinach for Kelly who is vegetarian.
The curate had cucumber- dill cream cheese sandwiches, croissants with chicken salad, banana loaf, chocolate chunk scones with devonshire cream, macarons, blackberry tartlets and chocolate dipped strawberries.  Colourful flowers adorned the top and second tier.  There were appropriate vegetarian selections on the curate as well.
From all the teapots on display, the one that caught my eye the most was this beautiful pink and purple chintz.
The outing was a lot of fun, especially to see Mia enjoying herself so much. I highly recommend Moffat's as the staff was friendly, food and presentation was superb and the ambience quaint.
Being in the company of my daughter and granddaughter for this high tea made it a perfect birthday gift and I wish to thank them for it.
I'm joining these tea parties:
I hope you'll visit my hosts and their guests for tea.  It may take me a couple of days to get around and visit everyone, we're taking advantage of the warm and sunny days to be outside.

  2. Good morning Judith,
My Auntie P and Uncle Doug spent every winter in Dunedin.
What a charming tea room and the atmosphere is lovely. The tea looks fabulous as do you three ladies! What a splendid way to celebrate your birthday. I too love the chintz teapot and I spied another piece of china which I recently acquired and will be sharing at next week's party. Thank you for sharing your delightful outing with us and enjoy your warm sunny days.

  4. Lovely, lovely! How I'd enjoy a visit to a tearoom like that. The decor and the food looks so attractive. I noticed the petite point teacup hanging in front of the teapots and it reminded me of the china my aunt had. I always admired it. What a special time to enjoy celebrating an early birthday.

  34. Hi Judith. You have a beautiful family and I love that you got to spend time with your girls. I love all the time I get with my daughters and granddaughters too, and how lovely that you got away to someplace warm and away from the dreadful snow which seems to be everywhere, (with the exception of the soggy West Coast and soggy Oxfordshire...sheesh, you can't win!) Anyway, lovely tea time and I hope you have a fantastic week. :)

  35. Oh, what a fabulous and perfect day for you - warmth, gorgeous view, girlie and yummy teahouse, with daughter and granddaughter...does a birthday GET much better than that?

I am so happy for you!

You know I sold a teapot like that a few years ago.....and just a few days ago I ran across a photo of it and told hubs I regretted letting that one go. It was one of the prettiest of my collection - and not so old/rare/delicate that I didn't USE it.

I wish I still had it for you!

I have been dealing with a very sick hubs and all sorts of things here lately, terribly sorry I have been a poor reader. I have lots to catch up on. Hugs.

    HAPPY (belated) BIRTHDAY, DEAR JUDITH!

  39. What a darling tea house to visit for your birthday! It reminds me of a wonderful a little tea house that closed years ago. Their afternoon tea was amazing and I hoped to take my little girl long before she was born but it was not meant to be. I need to find a place just like this for us to visit. I really hope you have a happy birthday!
