Renovating my Blog

I decided my blog needed some updating and my fairy blogmother, Karen Valentine has made changes with her professional experience to give me a cleaner look.  You can find Karen's button for Valentine Design on my sidebar and she's willing to do a little, or a lot.
Karen suggested a switch to two columns and now I can post large photos. Yay! If you care to follow me on Bloglovin', it's the little cross up there with the other social media icons.  I also added a new page 'Published In' at the top to feature which magazines and newspapers I write, or have written for.
My plans are to blog a little differently as well; weekly memes become overwhelming by trying to be polite and visit all the other participants.  Perhaps once a month or biweekly would be easier, and I intend to post more without joining parties.  I'm thankful for the friends I've met through blogging and the ones that choose to follow me. Welcome to any new readers to Lavender Cottage.
Here's what I've been up to.  I just completed an article for Ontario Gardener magazine about the ageing membership of garden clubs.  A few weeks ago a fellow Master Gardener approached me about putting together a committee to create a community garden in our village.  This would be allotment plots to grow vegetables and I was eager to get on board with this project.  We've met with the town, I've written about it in my weekly gardening column and we're beginning to advertise in other ways.  Hopefully this idea will come to fruition over winter as we already have a town property chosen that fits our needs.
Around home, I've been pulling out the winter decor.  Snowflakes and snowmen get to stay out until March and the few things that are actually for Christmas go back in the totes on January 1 or 2.
I am thankful to everyone that visits, and appreciate it whenever you have time to leave a comment.

  1. Your blog looks clean and it looks attractive, Judith. I think it's great that you can post large photos now! I understand totally where you are coming from. I miss having garden things to post about now. Love the plate and cup, Judith. Great ideas, great job, wonderful blog!
    Hugs, Beth

  2. Love your new look, Judith! The community garden project sounds interesting. It's nice to be able to think about gardening during the winter months.

  3. I love the new look of your blog Judith, and larger photos are a bonus. Love the snowflake dishes. I've been out seeing all the Christmas trees and decorations for sale and think I'll be getting out my festive ware soon. Good luck with the community gardens. Where our daughter lives in Sooke there is a wonderful community garden and I was very impressed when we visited there.

  4. I like the wider main column! I fully understand about how overwhelming all the blogging memes can be. Follow your own path and do what's right for you!

    P.S. Love those snowflake dishes.

  5. I worked away at my blog a while ago getting everything set up to be more "me". The photos were puzzling me as well, and I had to play with margin widths until I finally got those photos in place! Your blog looks just as nice as ever, and I enjoy coming over for a visit :) I find it hard to keep up with many of the parties etc., and now just do what I can when I can. Much less stressful, and I'm happier for it. Wendy x

  6. Great new look! It's going to be fun to see your photos in a larger size. I really like your photo of the snowflake dishes.

  7. Lovely blog update. Your winter tablescape is beautiful. I love white and silver. Good luck on your gardening venture. ~ Phyllis

  8. The new look on your blog looks wonderful and I love the large photo of your winter dishes, Judith. I hope the plans for a community garden go well for you.

  9. Nice changes and nice decisions.

Your dishes are gorgeous, and I look forward to reading your blog in the future.

  10. Wow! It sure does look different here! I'm looking forward to seeing larger pictures of your lovely gardens, and flowers, Judith.
Your winter dishes are very pretty.
    Have a nice weekend.

  11. I understand posting less often. When I did it every week it was just too much trying to get it done along with everything else to do. I find once a month is sufficient and if I get behind then I do. :)

  12. Hello Judith, I come way too little here at your blog, but love your new look and totally understand what you're saying about the linky parties. Best wishes for the garden project, that sounds wonderful indeed. Wishing you a sweet weekend as well. Hugs, Wendy

  13. A little tweaking is good to freshen things up. I have found this year that I just post when I have something to share rather than participate in memes as in the past. Life has just become too complicated at the moment. Valerie

  14. Your blog looks very nice! She does beautiful work. Those are very pretty plates.

  15. I like posting larger photos too. Your blog looks great, and I LOVE that snowflake china - very beautiful!

  16. Your blog looks wonderful and those winter plates are so pretty.

  17. I love the buttons Judith. Very nice!

  18. I love the new look, Judith! Larger photos make such a difference. Your snowflake plate and cup and saucer are so pretty. Happy weekend to you!

  19. Hi Judith,
Your mini makeover looks nice, love the bigger pics!
the community garden sounds like a fun project!they are popular around here... I always see mostly men working in them, I think they like the side by side competition!! I saw some VERY TALL corn there this year, haha!!
Lovely snowflake plates, I am chomping at the bit to do my winter dΓ©cor too:-)

  20. I think a lot of people are changing the way they blog. It's interesting the way it seems to be all happening now … but I do like your "new look." and it will be nice to see your larger photos! They are so good. You have some lovely dishes there. I'm getting anxious to get going on Christmas, but first our late Thanksgiving!

  21. Hi Judith,
Sounds like you have been busy - good luck with all your changes and little ventures.
I will blog about the tea parties that I attend - so keep a lookout for that.
    Have a lovely weekend!

  22. I can understand the need to blog differently and will be updating and changing this this winter. I meant to tell you I loved the turquoise decorations you had in your one post :)

  23. I keep meaning to "freshen" the look of my blog as well, just haven't had the time yet. Maybe for 2014 that can be a New Year's goal! Interesting about the aging membership of garden clubs. I've noted I'm one of the few non-retired members of my club. Maybe it's just that people don't have time for it until then?

  24. Change is good, looks like a two column is best. I find my pictures are always a little too big so perhaps it is time for a change for me.

I admire your Winter spirit, your snowflake dishes are fun.
