Lunch with a Friend

Welcome friends for tea this week.  I have to admit I've been ill with a sinus cold for 2 weeks and this is  the 3rd time since December.  I never get colds, what is different about this winter?
Anyway, I thought I'd share the lunch I served when I had a friend over for Valentine's Day.
With a red heart doily on the plate, we had a small bowl of borscht soup, chicken salad on a croissant  (which were so large we split one) and cream cheese and cucumber open face sandwiches.
We used Johnson Brothers red and white teacups and had cream earl grey tea.
For dessert we had sugar cookies that I already showed for my Valentine tea post.
My friend brought me this pretty pink kalanchoe as a hostess gift.  The time flew by as we talked about family, our homes and so many other things; you know how it is over a cup of tea...
I'm linking with these lovely ladies for tea:

Terri for Teacup Tuesday
Bernideen for Friends Sharing Tea
I hope you'll join my hosts and their guests.

  5. I have no idea to answer you on the cold but we do have 2 humidifiers going in our house because it is so dry in Colorado and even with had I wake up every day with a stuffy nose.
I don't know how it is in Canada. Also, would you believe I go to bed at 8:30 every night - maybe 9:00 at the latest. I have to get a lot more sleep now!

Your lovely tea looks delightful! Such "pretty food"!

  9. Beautiful lunch! I love how you made the open sandwiches.
Is it something about this winter? I'm normally never sick, but got a flu 6 weeks ago, and I'm still not clear of it, have sinus/ear/throat blockages, causing deafness and tinnitus. So maybe it's something in the air?
Your teaspoon with flower handle is lovely.

  10. How awful to have had three colds in three months! I'm sure that you're doing everything you know to do. For the rest, email me. Ha!

A beautiful tea and a delicious looking lunch. I notice that my daughter-in-law goes straight for the Earl Grey where I'm more likely to go for chamomile.

Lovely plant, too. Brings some spring inside, which we all need.

  25. Hi Judith,

I'm sorry you've been sick. I was like that last year. The doctor told me that every few years one might have a year like that and then you build up resistance again. "For what it's worth!" Your lunch looks lovely with so many special touches, and what a pretty hostess gift to bring some spring indoors!

  30. Hello Judith, I'm sorry you're a bit unwell. Here in Vancouver it hasn't stopped raining for weeks and there are all sorts of annoying little sniffles going around. But all that lovely pinkness does help, doesn't it? I loev transferware but somehow have managed to avoid buying it. (I don't know how...lol) The red type is so much more beautiful than the other colours, isn't it? Lovely rosy and cheerful post.

  31. Judith, I am so happy you could join us for tea this week and I hope your cold leaves very soon. It has been a strange winter.
I've been ill with one thing or another since I got home from our trip out west and now of course, I'm down with my back. Better days ahead...

Your lunch is wonderful and you have served a lovely selection of foods for tea too. Your flowers are beautiful! Have a good week, my friend.

    Blessings,
    Sandi

  32. Hi Judith, I am so sorry to hear about your sinus infection! Some years just seem to be bad years for them... I used to get them at least twice a year but since I've been getting flu shots in the fall the sinus infections seem to have disappeared (shhhh)!
What a lovely tea... I'm coming to your house for tea, lol!
I forgot to ask you the last time we spoke, you had had some Monk's blend tea and I was just wondering where you purchase it from - sounds like something I would like to try.
    Get better soon my friend!
    Hugs,
    Beth P

What a lovely tea you gave your friend. Everything looks so pretty. Sorry to hear you have been ill this winter. Since I've been in Florida I've had quite a few days of off and on sinus problems. Seems to affect me with the frequent weather changes here.
