Susan's Tea

Welcome friends for tea this week.  Nancy from Two Cottages and Tea won my giveaway from the 'meet and greet, grow your blog' party hosted by Vickie at 2 Bags Full and it was a pleasant surprise to have someone I know from our weekly gatherings receive the goodies.  I had another giveaway during the same time, and this was through my gardening column for the readers.  A gardener's journal from the Toronto Botanical Gardens was the prize and given the choice of me delivering it to her house, or coming for afternoon tea, the winner chose the latter.
Susan turned out to be a delightful woman from England, still with her sweet accent, and who spent her summers in Ireland.
I wanted the tea to be a special time and served smaller sized treats which are better suited to ladies.
Regular sized chocolate cupcakes for hubby on the left, and smaller, daintier ones on the right for us.
Seedless raspberry jam for the scones, and a small dish of lemon wedges.  Some of my favourite orange pecan tea loaf can be seen on the bottom of the curate in the background. (find it under recipes)
Susan didn't fancy a flavoured tea, so we had Afternoon Tea from Harrods in the elegant Cream Lace by Skye McGhie.
The Royal Albert warmer kept the tea nice and hot.
Vintage lacy cocktail napkins and the garden lace placemats I picked up in Florida last year.  Sometimes guests are afraid to soil the napkins but I believe in using these pretties.
The tea table with Susan's gift in the bag at the back.  We had a wonderful time talking and before we knew it, she had to go.  But, not before promising to visit our local garden club meetings where we have social teas at our flower shows.

Wow, what a lovely spread! I should serve tea more often - we drink it regularly, but not as elegantly as you do. Sounds like a perfect way to spend the afternoon.

What a creative & delightful "give-away"...an afternoon tea with YOU! Wish I would have won something so generous! It must have been lovely to sit & chat & get to know one another over such scrumptious treats.

Your teapot is gorgeous, Judith & I love the warmer you have it on. The whole table is beautifully appointed. Well done!!

Warm Hugs,
Rett

I love blogging! It is great visiting a whole other life from the one I lead! Where else could this casual Florida person feel at home at a beautiful special tea like what you are showing. Your photos are lovely and it really does make me want to drop by for tea for real instead of just virtually. (I"d have to buy some new clothes though ;>))))) Thanks for sharing.

Looks like an absolutely smashing teatime, and may I just say I adore those garden lace placemats! How perfect for you, Judith! By the way, don't know if you get the Flea Market Gardens magazine there, but the 2013 edition has some of the cutest, cutest ideas yet ... lots of great garden sheds, unusual planters, etc. You might like to look for it if you haven't seen it! They're also on FB if you want to see the sorts of things they feature.
