Getting the Home ready for Christmas

As our American friends are gearing up for their Thanksgiving, we in Canada celebrated this day of thanks back on October 7 and are getting into full swing decorating for Christmas.
I tucked a little faux bird's nest into this planter I received as a gift last week.
Holiday plants like the poinsettia add much needed colour indoors during the winter months.
Guests are greeted at the front door by a sign I painted a number of years ago.
I buy some of our decor such as this wooden sleigh from local artisans,
as well as this home crafted sleigh and a purple santa I couldn't resist.
An unusual but cute nativity music box I made at ceramics back in the 80's gets put out in a special place each year.
And, in the spirit of Christmas, I'm having a giveaway.  If you'd like to win this 2011 issue of Victoria's Holiday Bliss, just leave a comment on this post.
If you'd like to have a chance to win this book 'Scones and Tea', leave a comment on the post here that describes how I ended up with an extra copy of each.  Open to residents of the US and Canada, the two winners will be drawn on December 3.
I'm linking with Sandi in PEI at Rose Chintz Cottage for her Home Party and I invite you to visit her and her guests.

You're ahead of me, Judith. I'll have to start pulling out the Christmas things soon, I see. When I was teaching and December interviews were completed, my tradition was to go and purchase a poinsettia and start to focus on the season.

I love the sign you painted. It shows that people at welcome at your door.

It's generous of you to offer 2 gifts; I'd be pleased if you entered me. Thank you!

I'll start decoration for Christmas the day after Thanksgiving. I love handmade and you made several lovely, fun decorations. The nativity is adorable and I like your Merry Christmas sign. I try to support local artisans this time of year -- small store Saturday!!! :D :D Have fun and yes, I'd love to win your extra copy of Holiday Bliss.

Judith, your Nativity you made is very sweet and I love the planter with the birds nest! The sign is pretty too. Poinsettias are always a welcome sight, aren't they?
We probably did ceramics around the same time. Great hobby and a wonderful way to gift the folks you love. Thank you for sharing this at my HOME and enjoy your day, my friend.

Blessings,
Sandi

The bright warm red of the Poinsettia plants always makes me feel Christmas is on it's way. Your ceramic crib is charming & I just love the Merry Christmas you painted, along with the purple Father Christmas. I've seen so many purple Christmas decorations in the magazines, I've just written about it on my blog. I'm wondering about adding it into my colour theme this year. If this is the start of decorating your home for Christmas I can't wait to see the rest.

IT looks strange to see the Christmas decorations on this post, yet I know as soon as Thanksgiving is over, ours will come out. Right now it's warmish outside as well, which does not feel like Christmas or Thanksgiving! But your things are beautiful.

And yes I would love a copy of the Victoria Holiday Bliss!

Wow! You are so multi-talented, Judith. You paint, do ceramics, cake decorating, gardening, and other things too, I'm sure.
Your house looks very Christmasey! Thanks for sharing it with us.

I am a slow poke to get the Christmas things out. I wait until the first to go under the stairs and haul all the decorations out. The weather has been nice to be outside. Valerie

Hi Judith! It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas at Lavender Cottage. Your new planter is colorful and pretty - I like the little sled and the bird's nest in it. Love your painted sign; how talented and creative you are! The nativity is sweet too. Merry Christmas!

As soon as the Santa parade happens in Toronto... our decorations start going up. With this unseasonable warm weather hubby is a late in putting up the lights .. hopefully by the week-end.

Your nativity music box is darling and that you made it , makes extra special.

Wishing you a fabulous week-end...xo C. (HHL)

P.S. please do not include my comment in giveaway, as I do have that wonderful issue.

Hi Judith, your little planter is so cute and festive looking. It's nice to have Christmas decorating early here isn't it? I have the issue of the magazine so you don't have to include me in the draw. Thanks.
