Wildflowers or Weeds?

Beauty lies in the eye of the beholder. It's up to us to decide whether these flowers that grow along roadsides are wildflowers or weeds.  To me, they're all beautiful and if the insects like them, then they're beneficial too.

  1. Definitely Wildflowers...not weeds! They are beautiful...and they do serve a purpose...some of the best honey comes from wildflowers! Butterflies and bees love them. They beautify our roadsides and fields. They make me smile. That's definitely a good reason for wildflowers! Thank you for sharing them with us. I LOVE wildflowers and would gladly plant them in my front yard instead of grass if my husband wouldn't keep mowing them down!

  5. Beautiful photos. Isn't it true? Weeds are just weeds if we decide they are not worthy to be called flowers.

  6. I was just debating this, myself, over the weekend as I brough bouquets of "wildflowers" into my house. Your flowers are beautiful whatever you decide to call them!

  7. I'd let them grow in my garden. Why not? I've got buttercups growing there now. Wildflowers certainly make those drives a lot more pleasant and those walks in the fields and forests.

  8. I love the picture of the aster with the bee! I have lots of wild daisies in my flower beds. If the weeds are pretty they can stay! Have a good week.

  9. Hi Judith: I agree with you. I think some weeds(?) are really beautiful and when you are able to pick a bunch for a simple boquet, that is the best..Happy Sunday..Judy

  12. You are right Judith in saying that wildflowers are worthy of our praise too. The ditches and fields are awash in beautiful color at this time of the year. Beautiful photos. Valerie

  14. Isn't a weed just a flower growing in the wrong place? Take the lowly goldenrod - despised here in Canada, but a treasured perennial in the U.K. it's all perspective. Lovely photos as always.

  16. I certainly say they are wildflowers. Unfortunately, we have a weed commissioner that says otherwise. :-( At least my goats like to eat those thistles that the weed commissioner says I can't have growing in my pasture. Your pictures are wonderful!

  25. Judith, Your mosaic is lovely! I have ox-eye daisies as well as milkweed in my garden. Weed vs desirable plant truly is at least in part, in the eye of the beholder.
