Irises

I don't have a collection of bearded irises like many gardeners do.  Between borers and the need for dividing, they don't have a place in my low maintenance beds.  There are a few I. pallida 'Aureo Variegata' though because I love their grape crush smell and the green and gold foliage is attractive all summer.
My favourite are the Iris Siberica and 'Caesar's Brother' has been a great performer in the late spring garden.
This is my newest acquisition, 'Strawberry Fair'.  Such a pretty combination of pink and purple.

  3. Beautiful irises. Mine are just beginning to bloom, but I have no idea what kind they are. Just common variety bearded irises, I guess. They were here in the yard when we moved in.

I planted some of the smaller Siberian irises in pots last fall, but they failed to bloom at all. Maybe next year.

  4. Beautiful! The Iris was one of my mothers favorite flowers. I have some purple Siberian Iris's that blooming beautifully right now. I had lots of Iris's at my previous home. My son bought it and I told him that we needed to divide them this Fall. Have only been done once in the 22 years we lived there. Most of them still bloom beautifully. I know that they perform better when divided. It is a job but hopefully it will be well worth it.
    Hugs,

  7. Lovely irises. They do take up a lot of room. I always say they are much to do about (not much). They are beautiful the week or two that they show their faces but otherwise their massive greenery seems to almost overtake everything else!

  8. Hello Judith,
Your Iris's are so pretty. My Bearded Irises didn't do so well this year. I only had one large bloom. They need dividing.

  23. Beautiful irises! Ours are done blooming. I already miss them. We do have a few rebloomers like 'Baby Blessed' and 'Immortality.' They should give us additional blooms this summer, if they get enough rain. Here's hoping! Thanks for sharing your lovely pics! ~~Rhonda
