The Best of Summer

Hello blogging friends and welcome to a post for two special parties.  The theme for Tea Time Tuesday hosted by Rose Chintz Cottage is 'Summer Dreams' and the theme for A Return to Loveliness hosted by A Delightsome Life is 'Savouring Summer'.  I thought, with a little ingenuity I could combine the two and invite you along for the celebration.  Please visit the two lovely hosts to see how the others joining them are celebrating.
Summer for me means gardening and bird watching, both of which I enjoy and like to share in my weekly gardening column and on my blog.  Many birds come to our gardens for the natural food sources and water from the pond and birdbaths.
To see the hummingbirds, you have to watch for them at certain times of the day.
I plant a lot of pastel colours in our gardens with lavender being my favourite of course and pink a very close second.
Warm weather means helping out with the arboretum flower beds that our garden club maintains.  It's not hard to recognize me.
Right as we swing into summer, the strawberries are ready to pick...
I freeze lots of them on trays first then bagged to last over winter.  Of course we like to eat strawberries fresh too with ice cream, strawberry shortcake and... dipped in chocolate.

But summer's also about time at the lake for picnics and swimming.  Upon a closer look, this is an autumn photo but you can still appreciate the view.
And then there are the backyard shenanigans for cooling off as seen at our daughter's place last summer.
Tea in the garden has become special for me now that my husband built a tea house.
I've picked a bouquet of peonies for the tea table.
A few sparkly sea shells are scattered on the bottom of the latest issue of Victoria magazine which has photos and stories to inspire home and garden decor.
A charming metal lantern that holds a candle became a little rusty from the weather so a new coat of paint in pistachio by Krylon has it looking new again.  The tablecloth is a blue background covered with birdhouses, sunflowers and butterflies.
Although the napkins are not cloth, I receive so many pretty paper ones from friends that know I like butterflies and decided these would be nice to use.  There are gingersnaps to have with our tea, a vanilla rooibos.  Rooibos is a favourite caffeine free tea and I have several different flavours.
It's always a pleasure to have tea with friends.

  26. What a lovely setting, Judith! All your pretty accessories look so nice in your outdoor tea room. I hope you gave your hubby a BIG hug for building that cozy little corner for you.

Love the new pistachio color on the lantern! You are the second person that I've seen using this color on their outdoor spruce ups. Very pretty & so are the lovely napkins...paper works great, especially in such a garden setting.

I guess you're still waiting on your box, huh? :-(

    fondly,
