Create a Spring Tabletop Garden

A couple of years ago, around the same time, I was really becoming inpatient for spring.  That's when I decided to create a tabletop garden and it's easy enough to do.
Find a large basket, bowl or other container and visit a florist or your grocery store for plants.  There are lots available right now such as tulips, crocuses and miniature daffodils in 4 inch pots and don't forget a houseplant or two for colour and texture.
You can line your basket with plastic, fill it with a good quality potting soil and plant right into it or as I have done here, lined it with plastic and just set the small pots on top.  A finishing touch would be to add some sheet or reindeer moss to cover the tops of the pots.
As one flowering bulb finishes, it can be replaced with another or a totally different plant.
The houseplants in my basket are a rex begonia and purple oxalis.  Putting together an indoor spring garden is certain to help chase the winter blues away.
I'm joining Tootsie Time for Fertilizer Friday - come flaunt your flowers!

  3. What a wonderful idea, spring in a basket. I'll have to look into doing this to bring some cheer to an otherwise dull February.

  4. Hi Judith,
I love your bright cheery basket of spring!

I enjoyed your comfort food post too. We did get a lot of snow but not the wind so it wasn't too bad.
    Take care,
    Carolyn

  13. You have brought hope and light and joy into my day and into my life!!! No, seriously I think this is a fantastic idea and I want to run right out and get some gorgeous plants and do this. I know just the basket, maybe even baskets (and they want a fortune for these at the store). I am soooooooo sick of brown and leftover dirty snow and this is just the prescription!
