Mosaic Monday - Dragonflies

Dragonflies have always fascinated me with their shimmering wings and colourful bodies.  Some of them spend their nymph stage in our pond as seen in my hand below.  They almost look like little alligators swimming around but then crawl up on plants to shed their skin and evolve into a beauty with wings.

I wanted to show the interesting effects that showed up on the computer after I photographed this yellow variety.  You can actually see the shadow of the wings on the leaf as well as some gold colouring from the body and the sunlight has created little jewels of red on the one wing.

I'm joining Mary over at the Little Red House for Mosaic Monday.  Creating a collage with your favourite photos results in a wonderful project worth sharing with other bloggers.  For instructions on how to create a mosaic, Mary has a button on her sidebar to click on.

  17. Yes, that shadow is really stunning! Isn't it amazing what the lens sees sometimes that we don't see? I wish we had dragonflies but I've only ever seen one here. Lovely as always, Judith. Have a sunny new week! – g

  20. Hi Judith, these are such beautiful shots. I have to admit to being a little squeamish of the nymph stage dragonfly in your hand. You are a brave woman. ;-) I do love dragonflies, though, and you took some amazing shots.

    Happy Monday,
    Susan

I love to sit back in the garden just at dusk and watch the dragonflies skim across the pond and soar into the darkening sky - they are magical.
