Colchicum - The Naked Lady

Colchicum autumnale

Colchicum waterlily

Colchicums are known as naked ladies because they bloom in September - October without leaves. The long dark strappy leaves emerge in spring and then die down to be forgotten.
Mine have poked through the bark chips in the front this week and are providing one last burst of lavender colour.
These bulbs should be planted in early September but if forgotten, will bloom right on the kitchen counter and when spent, can then be put in the ground.

  1. I haven't gotten any of these in my garden -- should -- and I shall remedy that! Love them this time of year --
