Blazing Stars

Liatris is one of my favourite plants because not only is it lavender in colour but butterflies and bees are attracted to it. These native plants form nice clumps and are drought tolerant.

Above is L. aspera and below is A. spicata. The tall spikes are excellent cut flowers and will last about two weeks. It's interesting to watch the flowers open from the top down as most flower spikes open from the bottom up.

  1. I love liatris also, and have 2 good sized clumps in the garden.
